What is ‘In Search of Impressions’ about? What is your inspiration?

Strange as it may sound, the inspiration has been my pet cat back in my village in Kodaikanal. The impressions that make my art have been traced from the lifestyle in my village, the mode of transport-horse- and plantations like orange and coffee.

Is the human, animal and nature link a metaphor in all your works?

These will remain a recurring element in my works. What amazes me is the pace of our lives and the way we embrace technology without realising that too much importance to technology actually hampers our existence. On the other hand, we have animals that share an intense relationship with their habitat and nature. Watching them you realise technology has only touched the lives of humans.

Tell us a little about the scholarship, that you received, from Chandra Ilango Visual Art Foundation?

It is a one-year scholarship instituted by a person called Shekar Sitharaman in his father Sitharaman’s name. The foundation started by artist AV Ilango in his wife’s name, supports South Indian artists, in a bid to promote art and artists in Chennai.
