Centre will challenge SC stay on Jallikattu: Javadekar

Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar today said the Supreme Court has given only an interim stay for conduct of the traditional culture sport of Jallikattu and the Union Government would strive to vacate the stay.

Talking to newsmen at the airport here, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be visiting this city on February 2 to attend various functions, besides addressing a public meeting.

Answering a question, he said he would meet industrilists and farmers tomorrow, and this would help them in the coming union budget.

To a question Mr Javadekar said it was  common all over the world that whales beach. However, various marine research groups were conducting research on this aspect. Two groups of marine scientists are conducting research to find out the reason for the beaching of whaltes at Tuticorin  recently.

The minister said there was no politics involved in conferring Padma Vibhusion honour on actor Rajinikanth. The honour was conferred in recognition of Rajinikanth's  ontribution to cinema.
