What prompted you to start a centre in the city?

My master Kyosho Sekar is the first person in India to get the 8th Dan black belt from Japan’s Grand Master Kaicho, and is also a red belt holder with an experience of more than 35 years in martial arts. When he told me that martial arts originated first in Kancheepuram, I was surprised. I decided to open a centre dedicated to different kinds of martial arts like Karate, Kung fu, Judo, Kudado, Silambattam, Tai chi, Boxing, MMA, Kar Barg, etc.

How is the martial arts scene in India when compared to other countries?

While martial arts originated here, one can see a whole new approach to it in places like China and Japan. For them it is a way of life and people have temples for Kung Fu. We have a long way to go.

What is the kind of crowd you are looking at attracting for the centre?

The centre is located in the Pycrofts Garden Road. We want to identify and encourage talent and promote them at an international level. We will be charging based on the income. The idea is to rope in more people who will be trained by the best of masters in each field.
