However, due to the timely intervention of police the sacrifice was stopped and the animal was sent back to a mosque.
Police said that a film director of Nelpettai had bought a camel and brought it to Nelpettai on Monday.
On receiving information, Vilakuthoon police rushed to the spot and held talks with the film personality. Meanwhile, a large number of people gathered at the spot. Sensing that tension was building up police as a precautionary posted security in the area.
Citing a recent interim ban ordered by the court on camel sacrifice for Bakrid, police told the director and producer that they would arrest him if he facilitated the sacrifice.
Talks continued till late in the night. Infuriated by this, the man in question attempted suicide by jumping from the roof of his house.
But police and others persuaded and brought him down. Then members of Jamaath came into the scene and talks were held with them.
They were explained the legal hurdles involved in the sacrifice.
After consultation among themselves, Jamaat members agreed to drop the sacrifice and tie the camel at the mosque. Following this, cops left the spot around 1 am on Tuesday.
Jamaat members also held talks on Tuesday morning and decided to conduct the sacrifice Tamil Nadu. They also decided to submit a petition to the City Police Commissioner to seek permission to take the camel outside the state.
Meanwhile three more camels were brought to South Gate where police held talks with the mosque members and stopped camels from being offered as sacrifice. The camels were later seen tied outside the mosque.
