Sources said Anandhi (19) from Arni, who was working in Chennai, fell in love with Murali of Poonamallee.
They were in love for nearly four years. They decided to marry at the earliest as Anandhi’s parents did not approve her choice of a man from another caste.
They even arranged for her marriage with another person without her consent.
Anandhi eloped from her home on September 9 and got married to Murali on September 10 in Poonamallee.
In the petition to the Tiruvannmalai SP, Anandhi said “When my parents found out that we are married, they filed an abduction case against my husband in the Arni taluk police station. We have learnt that they are even ready to commit honour killing and my family will not allow us to live in peace. So the request to you to protect us and my husband’s family from the wrath of my family members.”
Since both are majors, the SP Ponni assured protection to Anandhi and Murali.
