Skill training for youth via PPP mode: CM
Soon, the state will have a Centre of Excellence through a public-private partnership (PPP) model and five technical skill development institutes (t-SDI) to train youth in various technical sectors, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced on Tuesday.

The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) has collaborated with Siemens and DigiTech for the Rs 546.84 crore project, with a state’s share of Rs 54.86 crore.
The project will adopt a hub-and-spoke model with the Centre of Excellence as the hub and the t-SDI as spokes, Chief Minister said. The Centre would be based in Anna university’s MIT campus, while the t-SDIs would be located each in the Taramani Central Technical Development Institute, Anna university’s constituent colleges in Kancheepuram and Villupuram, government engineering college in Vellore and the Murugappa technical institute. “Siemens and DigiTech would take up the operational costs for the first three years. Those trained here would then train others,” Jayalalithaa added.
20,000 youth to be trained
TNSDC also intends to train 20,000 youth in housekeeping, sales, accounts, nursing, health assistance for the service industry in city and municipal corporations and town panchayats at an estimated Rs 18 crore, she added. That apart, the state government will provide a three-month training on two wheeler mechanism to 30 candidates each in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in 35 panchayat unions (PU) at an estimated Rs 1.68 crore. Participants would receive a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000.
Focus on school pass outs
For those who successfully complete SSLC and Class 12 in panchayat unions, two different training programmes on skill development have been planned, the CM said. Each ITI in 60 PUs would impart a 3-month training course to 60 candidates with a stipend of Rs 3,000. “The scheme will cost Rs 2.94 crore to the exchequer, she added.
The government also has plans to start a Construction Skills Training Centre in Chengalpattu in Kancheepuram district at a cost of Rs 28 crore and train 5,000 personnel.
The Chief Minister also added that 76 lak people received benefits worth Rs 232.92 crore in the last five years through the TN Construction Workers Welfare Board.
