MTC officials say there is an increase in the number of commuters preferring MTC buses and they are operating buses to all the areas, besides small buses travelling in the interior areas. Officials added that they would replace unfit MTC buses after inspection, while remaining buses would be operated to the congested routes.
“We are now operating around 3,900 MTC fleets and however, the need to reduce overcrowd in the MTC buses was felt. As the govt is keen to provide importance for road transportation, the number of new MTC buses have been increased to meet the need,” said a senior MTC official, wanting anonymity. He added that around 52 lakhs passengers travel in the MTC buses per day and they would take a look at the bus terminus to reduce the bus congestion.
