The police are on the lookout for two persons suspected to have been involved in the murder.

It is said, P Dakshinamurthy (40) of Madhakoil street in Musakudi of Vadamattam village of Kuthalam union in Nagappattinam district, an AIADMK branch secretary and a ward member of the Konerirajapuram village panchayat was on riding on a motorbike near a private school in Sri Nagar colony in Kumbakonam on Sunday night.

Suddenly, two persons who came on a bike intercepted Dakshinamurthy and hacked him with an aruval (sickle) and escaped from the spot.

Passersby and locals in the vicinity rescued and rushed Dakshinamurthy to the Kumbakonam government hospital. However, the doctors at the government hospital pronounced Dakshinamurthy ‘dead on arrival’.
