Cop pulled up for ‘miss-use’ of official vehicle

Use of official vehicle for personal use among police officials is nothing new. However, a former DGP had to order an intelligence probe when an ADGP took away a new vehicle allotted to his SP and gave it to a woman who was not a family member, and was said to be a ‘friend’, according to police sources.

The SP, to whom the vehicle was allotted did not even get to see the vehicle as it had been given for the personal use of this private individual. Instead, he had to continue using his old SUV which was already in a bad shape. The issue came to light after another DGP found the woman getting out of the SP’s vehicle, which had a beacon and star. When the DGP saw that neither the SP nor his staff was inside the vehicle, he flagged this issue to the then DGP. The matter became a real issue for the department when the vehicle met with an accident while the unknown woman was using it, and the department had to repair the automobile. DGP office insiders say that this ADGP had become a pain for the administrative staff as he always demanded fuel reimbursements for both his official and private vehicles, so they were happy when he was caught in the act of ‘miss-use’.
