Directing it to deploy more earthmovers to take up the desilting work on a war footing, the tribunal also sought it file a status report on October 27 of the work undertaken.

When the case came up for hearing Jawahar Sharmugam, who had moved the plea seeking to the clean up the clogged canal, submitted photographs showing the pathetic state of the canal and how nothing has been done to clear water hyacinth, debris and slit that were impeding the flow of water.

The bench of Justice P Jyothimani and Expert Member who had gone through similar such photographs of the clogged drains even during the previous hearing, sought the PWD to speed up the process by deploying more earthmovers and ensure that the clogs are removed at least before the advent of the monsoons.

However, expressing hope that the government departments would definitely act upon and ensure that the situation does not go out of hand, also sought the petitioner to help the PWD in identifying the impediments and monitor the progress.

The counsel appearing for the PWD assured the tribunal that it would take its orders seriously.
