The victim was identified as Sivagurunathan, from Dindigul. Sources said that Siva, while working as medical representative of a private company, used to visit a private hospital in Devarkulam frequently as part of his business calls. During the course he developed a relationship with a caste Hindu girl working as a nurse there. Both of them were in love for three years.
Meanwhile, parents started looking for an alliance for the girl. The girl had told the parents about her love for Siva. But, the parents opposed it saying that the medical representative was from a Dalit community.
Subsequently, she had informed about the parents’ opposition to Siva and had asked him to marry her as soon as possible. Following this, Sivagurunathan along with his friends on Wednesday evening had gone to the girl’s house and had sought the permission for their marriage from her father Lakshmana Perumal. Angered by it, the girl’s father along with other family members abused and hacked him. Sivagurunathan who sustained serious injuries succumbed on the spot. Immediately Devarkulam police were informed about the death and they rushed to the spot.
The police, who recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem, conducted investigations at the house of the girl. Following the investigation, a murder case was registered and Lakshmana Perumal was arrested. Police have also secured a few other family members and are investigating their role in the murder.
