Police said Nagalakshmi of Tiruvallur Street in  Pattabhiram, a peanut seller, came to the station to enquire about the status of a complaint she had filed a few months ago with head constable Saravanan. On learning hat no action had been taken on her complaint, Nagalakshmi began abusing the officials. When Saravanan told them to meet the inspector on Friday, Nagalakshmi and her son Jagadeesh assaulted Saravanan.

According to the police, Nagalakshmi had filed a complaint of rape with the Pattabhiram police station three months ago. They had transferred the case to the Pattabhiram All Women Police Station where the women cops took Nagalakshmi for medical examination to Kilpauk Medical College. Doctors there had told the police that the woman was not raped and police did not act on her complaint.

When Saravanan asked them to leave the station premises, the mother and son assaulted him.
