Security guard of a private fish farm at Manimutharu had noticed a bear in the farmland adjacent to the fish farm on Tuesday evening. Seeing the gaurd the bear had climbed on top of an electric pole. Then the security guard had informed villagers and they rushed to the spot. They tried hard but could not drive the bear away.

In the meantime as darkness descended they dropped their efforts and went back home.Next day morning when the security guard saw the electric pole the bear was missing and he thought that the bear might have gone back to the forest. But when he walked in the farm he noticed the bear was sitting on top of a mango tree.

Immediately he had alerted Forest Department officials. Forest Ranger Mohan came down to the spot and tried to drive away the bear but he could not succeed. Then Fire and Rescue team were called and they also tried to drive the bear away.

Later, both the teams burnt a dry wood and tried to create heat for bear but bear stayed on top of the tree. Later, Fire tenders tried to shoo away the bear by splashing water on it. But still the bear kept clinging onto the tree. Despite struggling hard for the whole day the Foresters could not succeed in their effort to shoo away the bear away.

Sources from the Forest Department claimed that the same bear had visited the same area thrice in the last two months and the bear, from the Western Ghats, used to come to the village in search of food and water.
