Sources said that the couple Nagaraj (30) and Kalaiselvi (26), who got married in 2011, were residing at Ammapalayam village in Perambalur district with their two daughters, aged four and two. Sources added that Kalaiselvi is pregnant for five months now.

Meanwhile, the couple had frequent quarrels as Nagaraj had an extra marital affair with his sister in law. Following this, the family members of both Nagaraj and his wife intervened and advised him to discontinue the extra marital relationship. However, on Friday night, the couple again had an argument over the issue for several hours.

Suddenly, in a fit of rage, Nagaraj attacked Kalaiselvi with a log. She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. Soon he poured kerosene over the body and set her ablaze and escaped. On Saturday morning, the neighbours noticed smoke emanating from the house and felt something amiss. When they broke open the door, they were shocked to find the partially charred body of Kalaiselvi.

On information, Perambalur police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post mortem. Further investigations are on.
