Officials file status report on encroachments

Officials attached to Madurai district administration and Madurai Corporation filed status report on encroachments at various important streets at Madurai, on Tuesday.

The Registrar (Judicial) of the court has filed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and claimed that the general public are facing obstruction due to the encroachments on various streets. The court should direct the respondents including the collector and the corporation commissioner to take effective and emergent steps to remove the encroachments, he prayed. 

The Deputy Commissioner submitted a report, in which he mentioned that encroachments were removed in Nethaji nagar, Periyar bus stand, Vaniyan Kinatru Lane and Subramniyapuram, after inspection. Then Judges directed DC to remove encroachments without affecting the livelihood of the street vendors. They ordered the public prosecutor to club all the pending cases filed by street vendors against eviction and to file a petition before Registrar (Judicial) on Wednesday.
