Following the clash, security has been tightened in the village. According to sources, fishermen at Ramanthurai were divided into two groups, one headed by Valan and the other by John Bosco.
Both the groups had a running feud over competition in business and ‘supremacy’ in the village. There had been clashes between the groups on several occasions in the past. Meanwhile, on October 10 John Bosco gang had attacked Valan’s supporters.
Hence, members of Valan gang were waiting for the right time to pay their opponents back. On Tuesday evening, when three members of John Bosco gang were walking on the shore, the rival group members had hurled crude bombs on them. Three from Valan group were injured. When the news spread, supporters of John Bosco retaliated by hurling crude bombs on Valan supporters and four were injured in the attack. Police also conducted an investigation and arrested 10 fishermen in connection with the attacks.
