Bedi’s roadmap for monsoon mission
Different government departments are in coordination to face any eventuality during the Northeast monsoon which is expected to set in another few days.

Puducherry Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi chaired a meeting of the officials of different departments at Kamban Kalai Arangam here on Thursday when she advised the officials to function in coordination to help the people during the rainy days.
Later, Dr Bedi told newspersons that unlike in the past, assistance would be provided to only those affected in the rain and all ration cardholders will not be provided with financial assistance. She also advised the officials to remain at the venue of the meeting till it concluded.
According to an official statement, the Revenue and Disaster management Department have kept ready 179 shelters to accommodate people affected in rain after anticipating water login/inundation in low lying areas. Availability of basic amenities like food, drinking water, toilet facilities, medicines and others have been ensured in the shelters.
Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been requested to assist the local teams in case of emergency and mobile control rooms will be operational during the monsoon, the statement said. Emergency Operation Centers will be functioning round the clock with toll free numbers 1070 and 1077 and people could contact and get help for any event.
Puducherry police have made elaborate arrangements to provide wireless communications in the event of breaking down of telephone communication due to water logging.
The Health Department will be setting up Rapid Response Teams (RRT) with Ambulance service. Each RRT will monitor five to six shelters set up by the Revenue Department. In addition, “108” Ambulance service have been placed at 8 different places for 24-hour service, the statement said, adding that all life-saving drugs, IV fluids, disinfectants are being kept ready.
The social welfare department will mobilize and deploy volunteers to assist in relief activities in affected areas, facilitate donations of relief materials from donors, NGOs, Firsm, Public and distribute them to the affected. Electricity Department, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, and Transport Department among others are also being pressed into service with particular assignments, the statement said.
