High Court order on CBI probe into DSP case upheld

A bench, comprising Justices Madhan B Lokur and Adarsh Kumar Goel, while hearing an appeal filed by father of the deceased Ravi, upheld the High Court order for CBI probe into the case. 

The state in its submission at the Supreme Court claiming that a status quo report has been filed in the trial court in which it was mentioned that the deceased had attempted suicide thrice in the past and hence, the case should be treated as a suicide. Pointing to this submission, the State counsel argued that the transfer of the probe to the CBI in this case was unnecessary. 

After hearing the arguments of the government counsel, the bench said that the death of a senior police official was not an ordinary issue and therefore it was appropriate to hand it over to the CBI. The bench also noted that it did want to intervene in the order of the High Court and dismissed the TN’s plea.

Earlier at the Madras High Court, Ravi filed an appeal seeking to transfer the probe into the death of his daughter DSP Vishnupriya, which was then investigated by the State CB-CID. The HC admitted the plea of Ravi and ruled in his favour transferring the case to the CBI. 

Vishnu Priya, who was the then DSP of Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, was found hanging at her quarters on September 18, last year. Initially, the case was investigated by the state police and later transferred to the CB-CID.
