Chennai
I live in KK Nagar West. It is in the centre of the city. At one time, we could reach anywhere fast from our area. But now, we have been completely cut off from neighbouring areas, because of the ongoing Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) work on Ponnurangam Salai and East Vanniyar Street. I, and many other students of Vani Vidyalaya and Meenakshi Engineering College have to take this road and the East Vanniyar Street to reach out schools and colleges.
Ponnurangam Salai is a busy road throughout the day. It is important for me because it connects Ramapuram with KK Nagar and MGR Nagar. But now they have dug up the road. They have also made it a one -way.
There is a heavy traffic jam and it affects traffic on Anna Main Road. It affects school students like me. It takes over 15, 20 minutes to cross this 100 metre stretch. The road is also muddy and because of the traffic jam, the air is very bad. I have to hold a handkerchief to my nose often on this stretch. With both the roads remaining dug up for more than a fortnight, it has become really difficult for me and others living in the area to move around. I think authorities do not take our complaints and struggles seriously because we are not living on the main road.
I keep asking myself daily, “When will they complete the work?” What I and my friends want is speedy completion of the repair work on these roads. Will the authorities listen to me?
