‘All steps will be taken to stop bird flu outbreak’
The state government will take all possible steps to ensure that the bird flu epidemic does not spread in Tamil Nadu, animal husbandry minister P Balakrishna Reddy told department officials here recently.

Following a missive from the central government, the department plans to have check posts at the state borders, create awareness among poultry farm owners, have enough medicine and ensure preventive measures in poultry farms, he added.
Vehicles entering TN specially from Kerala – from where bird flu has been reported – would be sprayed with pesticide and round the clock surveillance would be maintained, the minister said. TN poultry farm owners would also be advised to desist from purchasing broiler chicken, ducks, chicks and eggs from Kerala. The minister also called on district collectors to conduct inter departmental meetings in this connection in their respective districts to ensure that bird flu did not enter TN, he concluded.
