AIADMK, DMK candidates file papers for Thanjavur and Aravakurichi
The Returning Officers’ office of Thanjavur and Aravakurichi on Friday saw hectic action as both the AIADMK and DMK candidates for the constituencies filed their nominations on the same day. They came in procession, garlanded the statues of the leaders and filed their nominations.

Thiruchirapalli
The DMK candidate for Thanjavur Anjugam Boopathi came around 12.45 pm to file her nomination with the Returning Officer C Suresh. Former Minister Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, district secretaries Durai Chandrasekar and S Kalyanasundaram, Congress district president Krishnasamy Vandayar accompanied her. She declared that she possesses movable and immovable assets worth Rs 30 lakh.
Later, she told the media persons that her winning chances were bright even six months ago and it had got brighter now. She continued her campaign accompanied by former Union Ministers TR Baalu, SS Palanimanickam, former state Ministers SNM Ubayadulla and KN Nehru. Similarly, the AIADMK candidate M Rengasamy who came to the Taluk office around 2.15 pm along with former mayor Savidri Gopal, party district level leaders Durai Veeranana, V Arivudainambi and V Punniyamurthy filed his papers with the Returning Officer C Suresh.
Rengasamy declared Rs 44 lakh worth movable assets and Rs 57 lakh worth immovable assets. Later, he told that the party had chosen him to bring development to the constituency and promised to fulfil all the needs of Thanjavur. In Aravakurichi, the DMK candidate KC Palanisamy accompanied by former Minister EV Velu and other leaders filed his papers with the Returning Officer Sybudeen around 12.30 pm. AIADMK candidate V Senthil Balaji accompanied by M Thambidurai filed his papers at around 2.15 pm. Interestingly, Senthil Balaji arrived at the Returning Officer’s room at around 1.30 pm but waited for an auspicious time till 2.10 pm.
Thambidurai said, “Senthil Balaji will win with a margin of one lakh votes. We will tell the people about the achievements of our government and work as if ‘Amma’ is contesting in the election.”
Bose files nominations for Tiruparankundram
AIADMK candidate for Tiruparankundram by-poll AK Bose filed his nomination and immediately launched his campaign here. Two others filed their nominations
Bose was accompanied by a host of Ministers, MLAs, MP and party functionaries during the nomination. Earlier, before filing his nominations he offered special prayers at Tiruparankundam Murugan temple. He was accompanied by Ministers O Panneerselvam, RB Udayakumar, Sellur K Raju, Kadambur C Raju, Ma Foi Pandiarajan, MLA Rajan Chellappa and MP Vijila Sathyananth. On the third day of the nomination, three candidates including Bose filed their papers.
With this the total number of candidates who have filed their nominations so far stands at five. Ramesh from Uzhaipali Makkal Katchi filed his nomination. He said that he had the support of many parties and would seek support from People’s Welfare Front (PWF). Another Independent candidate Raja from Pasumalai in Madurai, filed his nomination, on October 28.
Violation of model code alleged
AIADMK cadre violated the model code of conduct as nearly 30 people accompanied the candidate on the way to file his nominations beyond the permited limits. Nearly 30 cadre including party MPs were seen accompanying AK Bose. Meanwhile permission was denied to DMK candidate Saravanan to conduct a meeting on Sunday in which DMK Treasurer MK Stalin was supposed to campaign.
