Heavy security facilitates incident-free Thevar Jayanthi

Thanks to heavy deployment of police personnel, the 109th Thevar Jayanthi function was incident free, not only in Ramanathapuram district but also in Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tiruneveli and Thoothukudi districts.

More than 8,000 policemen headed by ADGP Tripathy, five IGs, six DIGs, 16 SPs and 19 ADSPs were involved in the security duty. As many as 20 dog squads were pressed into service and two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were also deployed to monitor the crowd. 

122 check posts put up 

In total 122 check posts including that of the neighbouring districts were setup and every vehicle passing through them were checked thoroughly. Earlier only own vehicles were permitted and rented vehicles were not allowed to enter the district. 

For the first time, seven check posts in Pasumpon village were monitored online. CCTV cameras were also used to monitor the crowd. Tripod cameras were placed in 50 sensitive places in the southern districts to monitor vehicle movement. Pan Tilt Zoom Camera, fitted in the police vehicles, were used for the first time. These have high resolution and can be tilted remotely. They can also spot far off objects accurately. Earlier prohibitory orders under 144 was promulaged in Ramanthapuram district from October 25 and liquor shops were closed for four continuous days.
