Arun Sasi (33), a native of Kottayam in Kerala, was nabbed on Monday by a special team, which scrutinised CCTV footage from Express Avenue mall, police said on Tuesday.
Earlier, managers of a retail showroom and a watch store had filed complaints with the police that apparels and expensive wristwatches were missing from their respective shops, police said. They conducted investigation and recovered the CCTV footage from the mall. According to police sources, the video footage from the mall revealed that the accused had broken into both shops, following which a probe was launched to nab him. By tracking the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the missing mobile phones, the police were able to zero in on the suspect.
When police interrogated Sasi, he revealed to them that he hid in toilets and other areas in the mall that were less frequented by others and later broke into the shops using a set of tools he had with him. The police lodged a case and later remanded Sasi in judicial custody.
