Even as the leaders of various parties in the combine continue to deny any such move and claimed that they had made the decision to support the Congress in Nellithope only after holding discussions with other allies, the other partners, particularly the Left parties, seem to differ.

Speaking to DTNext, Thol Thirumavalavan, VCK, president, said that the political situation was different in every state and accordingly, they had to take decisions particularly during elections. “What may be right in Tamil Nadu, may not be right in other states or territories. We are in TN and we know very well about the politics here and in such a condition, our party members in Puducherry suggested that we can align with small regional parties, which join hands with Congress,” he said denying any dissents from any ally in the PWF.

But the decision has left a bitter taste among the Left parties. G Ramakrishnan, state secretary, CPM said that the VCK did not convey their decision to us. “Our party strongly opposes VCK’s decision,” he said. When asked whether the VCK’s decision would lead to rift in the PWF, he quipped, “we will sit and hold talks.” R Mutharasan, state secretary, CPI, pointed out that his party would not back the Congress. “After getting a word from the Puducherry unit, we will hold talks with the VCK,” he said.

A Marx, a political analyst, says “Indications are there for PWF to split. Even some VCK leaders openly demanded the party to support the DMK in TN.”
