Though the incident took place on October 26, the complaint was only lodged with the Tirumangalam police on Wednesday. Police said Pradeep, son of Velu (34), a resident of Gandhi Nagar was badly injured in the freak mishap. Both the children had a fight at the centre when the accident took place. The boy was rushed to Sankara Nethralaya, where doctors had to remove the injured eye as it was beyond repair. According to the police, the boy was permanently blinded on the one eye. The child’s parents work as masons and used to leave him at the centre at Tirumangalam, which is adjacent to their house. The police are investigating the credentials of the centre. “We need to treat it as an accident as the girl did not have a motive for the attack. However, we need to investigate the negligence on the part of the day care centre,” a police official attached to Tirumanagalam police said. He said the day care centre was responsible for the safety of the children in their custody and such an accident could not have happened if they had paid proper attention to the children.
