Brisk action on final day of filing nomination
The last day of filing of nomination witnessed some hectic activity at the offices of the Returning Officers in both Thanjavur and Aravakurichi as 28 nominations were filed at Aravakurichi and 20 in Thanjavur.

Altogether, 59 nominations have been filed for Aravakurichi and 36 for Thanjavur. Though candidates of the arch rivals, AIADMK and DMK, filed their papers well in advance, nominees of PMK, BJP and DMDK opted to file their papers only on the last day. Meanwhile, the BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarajan chaired the working committee meeting at Aravakurichi Tamilisai urged the voters of Aravakurichi to support the BJP candidate so that he might act as a bridge between the Centre and State. Further, he would also bring a lot of development works to the state as well as to the constituency. Meanwhile in Tiruparankundram, a total of 17 candidates filed their nominations.
After the final day of nomination, totally 44 have filed their papers. On the final day, BJP candidate Srinivasan, accompanied by State unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan, filed his nomination. After the nomination filing process, Tamilisai Soundararajan interacting with media persons claimed that Srinivasan was a scholar and a national party candidate. BJP was contesting in the election with the confidence that they have the support of people and the saffron party was working to usher in a change in the political setup in the state.
The by-election is a litmus test for Election Commission as the election for Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies were cancelleddue to distribution of money voters. The two constituencies had brought bad name to the EC and now EC is in a situation to conduct the election in a free and fair manner, she said. The two Dravidian parties have hurt the sentiments of the people of Thanjavur and Aravakurichi constituencies by retaining the same candidates because of whom the elections were cancelled in both the segments.
Hence, voters must defeat the two Dravidian parties and should vote for BJP, appealed Tamilisai. On the last and final day, a total of 17 nominatons were filed taking the tally to 44. Out of the 44, only one is a woman and she is the alternate candidate for DMK nominee Dr Saravanan. Kanimozhi, the sole women candidate, is the wife of Saravanan. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on Thursday and the final date for withdrawal of candidature is Friday.
Narayanasamy files nomination
Puducherry Chief Minister and Congress Candidate for the November 19 Assembly by-election to the Nellithoppe Constituency V Narayanasamy filed his nomination papers on Wednesday. He was accompanied to the office of the Returning Officer Malarkannan by PCC President and PWD Minister A Namasivayam, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, DMK South Convener R Siva, MLA and former legislator John Kumar.
AIADMK party office inaugurated:
Earlier in the day, the AIADMK party office for the Tirupparankundram by-election was inaugurated by State Finance Minister O Panneerselvam. There was heavy crowd at the inaugural function. A reporter of television channel lost Rs 5,000 in cash during the event.
