The murder of Shantha (65), a spinster who lived alone at a two-storeyed independent house at Pulla Avenue, was executed by a three-member gang from Nepal, whose help was sought another Nepali who worked just opposite to the victim’s house. Police have arrested Gorak Singh (34), the Nepalese security guard and a hunt is on to nab his associates Mansingh (36), Lalith Holi (30) and another unidentified person. In the second murder, where a 58-year-old woman advocate was found murdered inside her house at Kumaran Nagar, police have arrested M Karthikeyan (34), a senior marketing manager of a company. Police said Karthikeyan and the victim Lakshmi Sudha were in a relationship for the last eight years.

Karthikeyan had married recently and began to avoid Lakshmi Sudha. Lakshmi Sudha started to threaten Karthikeyan and warned him that she would tell his wife about their affair. So Karthikeyan decided to eliminate Sudha, police said. Karthikeyan came to the house of Sudha in the afternoon of October 31 and had a quarrel with her. After a heated argument, Karthikeyan pulled out a knife and stabbed her. Three eye-witnesses had seen Karthikeyan going into the house and one of them had seen the two fighting. In the murder of Dhanalakshmi at Muggies Garden, Thousand Lights, police have arrested the victim’s tenant Sugandhi (35) and her lover A Yovan (26).

Police said Sugandhi had been living alone after her husband deserted her and left for his hometown, taking their children along with him. In the meanwhile, Sugandhi developed an intimate relationship with Yuvan, a mineral water supplier to houses in the locality. When Dhanalaskhmi started pestering Sugandhi to vacate the house, she took the help of Yuvan and murdered Dhanalakshmi by strangulation at around 1.15 pm on Nov 1.
