Talking to reporters here on Sunday, she charged, “It has become routine for Vaiko to say different things each day.” Hitting out at the MDMK leader she said that it was Vaiko who approached the DMDK for an alliance in the Assembly elections, but later he contradicted himself. “Recently, Vaiko even said that the PWF will not support candidates fielded by DMDK in the Thanjavur, Aravakurichi and Tiruparankundram elections when we are no longer in the PWF. He is an emotional person and he keeps on airing different opinions regularly,” she said and added, “There is no need for the DMDK to respond to his statements.”
Speaking about the flow of money in the coming elections in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur, where allegations of large scale distribution of money to the electorate has been made, she said that DMDK would win the elections if the Election Commission conduct the polls in a free and fair manner.
“We will fulfill the promises made in our manifesto in these constituencies, if our candidates win the election,” she added. It may be recalled that during the last general elections, Vaiko pulled all stops to rope in the DMDK leader in the PWF alliance. His efforts bore fruit and he even declared Vijayakant as Chief Minister candidate and allotted the major share of 124 seats to the party in the alliance.
The PWF split after the humiliating defeat in the Assembly elections in May. DMDK and TMC quit the alliance and the other parties remained in the front. In the backdrop of the November 19 elections, Vaiko commented that he committed a mistake by announcing DMDK chief as Chief Minister candidate stirring yet another controversy.
However, a senior MDMK leader was quick to point out that his leader’s statement was based on the rout of DMDK in the Assembly elections. “PWF allotted 124 seats to the DMDK and the party could win none of the seats. Out leader merely said what the people in the state think,” he added.
