Don’t end life for crop loss, urges Sangam

The body has asked the fellow farmers to fight against the odds. They have also resolved to work against the BJP candidates in all the three segments in the state where the assembly polls is scheduled. An urgent meeting of farmers from Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Karur and Ariyalur was convened by Desiya Thennidhiya Nadigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam in which the farmers discussed about the present plight of the farmers and their loss which prompts them to take extreme steps and witnessed around four such deaths. 

The State president P Ayyakannu who spoke among the participants said that the farmers should not be vexed with the loss but should face any circumstances and fight against it. “We should fight for our rights and will fight until the crop loans availed from all the banks be waived”, Ayyakannu said. Meanwhile, the farmers charged that the BJP led Centre is responsible for suicides as the government has been working in the interest of Karnataka. Even after the Supreme Court’s order to establish Cauvery management Board, BJP is reluctant in forming it just by aiming to get votes in the ensuing assembly polls. The State president P Ayyakannu added that the each vote polled for BJP is vote polled against farmers.

Tensed moments prevailed at the Krishnagiri district Collectorate on Monday as the 45-year-old Murugan, a farmer of Karveypuram near Agraharam in the district attempted suicide by consuming poison. The police on duty at the Collectorate rushed him to the government hospital.

He owned 21 cents land in Sundekuppam village and someone had allegedly taken possession of it using forged documents. His sister K Ponkodi said that he gave petitions to police and revenue officials to help him get back the piece of land and was upset that there was no action on his repeated representations. Upset over the issue he went to the Collectorate with his sister Ponkodi, consumed poison and swooned on the floor. He was rushed to the government hospital where he was treated and kept under observation. The police and revenue officials were conducting an inquiry into his earlier representations.
