Examination for 5,451 Group IV posts attracts 15 lakh candidates
Group IV examinations for various posts (5,451) including junior level assistants, typists, short hand writers, field surveyors and draughtsman among others had been conducted across the state.

The examination which was conducted by the TNPSC was attended by more than 15 lakh candidates. In Chennai, more than one lakh candidates took part in the exams at 301 centres across the city. An unique feature of the Group IV examination is that a mere clearing of the written test is the eligibility criteria to be appointed. There is no personal interview to filter the candidates.
Sources said the examination was taken up by engineering graduates and other professionals too, though a mere pass in Class 10 is the minimum criteria prescribed by the Commission.
The exam began at 10 am and went on till 1 pm. Mobile phones and calculators were not allowed to in the examination hall. After observing an examination centre at Triplicane, the TNPSC Chairman Arulmozhi said, “Unprecedentedly 15,64,471 persons have been allowed to appear for the exams this time. The exams, across the state have been invigilated by 5, 296 head invigilators and 78,716 invigilators along with 566 flying squads. District collectors functioned as chief coordinators and DROs as deputy coordinators, as requested by the Commission. The exam was successfully conducted with co-operation of several officials of various departments.
Bride ties knot, attends exam
Interestingly a bride who just tied the knot in the morning appeared for the examination in Villupurams. Akilandeswari, the bride requested her husband to take her to the exam hall and he fulfilled her wishes with concurrence of their relatives. Akilandeswari was the cynosure of all eyes at the centre as she took the exam in her bridal attire.
