The entire episode was filled with high drama that went on for nearly a day from Friday night to Saturday. According to police, Chinnarasu, the 38-year-old son of Ramaraj, an AIADMK functionary at Sanarpatti in Dindigul district, was kidnapped by some unidentified persons, who came in a car, while he was returning home in the same locality on Friday night.

Soon after abducting Chinnarasu, one of the gang members had called Ramaraj, father of the hostage, over phone and had demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom to release the man.

The gang had also warned him of  dire consequences if seeks the help of police or his friends to get his son rescued or released.

However, Ramaraj sought time to arrange money as it was a huge sum. Heeding his plea, the abductors had informed him that they would call him on Saturday morning. Not wasting time, Ramaraj managed to collect the ransom amount and was waiting for the next call from the abductors.

As informed, the abductors called Ramaraj and checked with him if he had arranged for the money. But, Ramaraj resorted to bargaining with the abductors, who came down to Rs 50 lakh to release his son. When the kidnappers relented on the ransom, Ramaraj grew suspicious and alerted the Dindigul Police about the abduction of his son.

Acting on the information police formed a special team and carried out a secret investigation. Even as the special team was probing and nearing the culprits there was a sudden twist in the whole story with Chinnarasu being released by the abductors.

When Chinnarasu reached home, the Dindigul police took him for investigation. A police source claimed that insider role was suspected in the whole kidnap episode of Chinnarasu and they are investigating into the case.
