Police driver nabs thief after hot pursuit

A police driver working under the additional commissioner (south), K Shankar proved his commitment to the department when he chased three thieves for almost two kilometres in his car and later managed to catch one of them.

According to the police, three youth on a two-wheeler snatched a bag from a woman who was walking on Jyothi Venkatachalam Road, near the city police commissionerate. When the woman cried out for help, Mari, the police driver, was exiting the commissioner’s office in a police vehicle and he started pursuing the youth. The accused tried to escape and when they reached the Perambur Baracks Road, Mari managed to intercept them. The youth abandoned their bike and started running. Mari got out of his vehicle and gave chase. He managed to get hold of one of the youth, who was later identified as Hevin, a resident of Otteri. The other two accused manage to escape from the spot. Mari suffered minor bruises on his hands and legs in the process. The senior police officials congratulated Mari for his commitment.
