Varsity recognised for running skill-based programme
Institute of Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD) of Bharathidasan University (BDU) was awarded five record certificates for having highest number of student enrolment in skill development programmes.

The IECD has been running various skill-based programmes for students. It introduced a special programme for school children called School -University - Industry - Tieup Scheme (SUITS). This was started in 2009 and has been functioning effectively till now. The main objective of the programme was to give hands on training in Computer Science to school children and prepare them to write examinations every year. The eight certificate programmes under SUITS, are Computer basic, Office automation, Programming techniques, Graphic design, C programming, Web design, C++ programming and 2D animation.
“Through this programme, children gain extra knowledge and skills in Computer Science”, said K Parthasarathy, Director, IECD. After completing the courses, one can get jobs in IT firms, he says. “For 2016-2017, under SUITS programme 82,812 children are undergoing the programme in IECD, which has been recognised with world record and national level record certificates”, Parthasarathy added. A team of adjudicators from Elite World Records from London and Unique World Records from Dubai and India, declared the attempts as world record as ‘Most Number of Students Enrolled in the Skill Development Programme Conducted by a University’.
While Asian Records Academy from Singapore declared ‘Highest Number of School Students Enrolled in Skill Development Course Conducted by a University for one Specific Intake’ and India Records Academy from Mumbai declared ‘Greatest Number of School Students Enrolled in Skill Development Course of an Institution in an Academic Year’. These world and national record certificates were handed over to the IECD, Bharathidasan University in the citation ceremony on Wednesday. Vice-Chancellor Muthukumar received the above said awards.
