I love to cycle but the road on which I live does not permit me to enjoy this joyful exercise. The West Cross Street in Natco Colony, Kottivakkam, was dug up to lay pipes before my summer holidays in April. With that, half the road disappeared. Till now, nothing has been done to restore the road to its previous smooth condition. I waited for the school to close, hoping to cycle around without the worry of homework or exams. But even six months after my school reopened, I am yet to take my cycle out.
The road is full of potholes. Children are unable to walk safely to school at the end of the street. Added to this, nearly 10 stray dogs that roam the street spoil our evenings. We have to play only under adult supervision. The dogs are attracted by the garbage bags that are strewn on the street by residents. There is no dustbin and we have to walk at least 250 metres to reach the one on ECR. The dogs are after the food from these bags.
It will be very helpful if our street is provided a dustbin, and if it is cleaned daily. Even if a road is not laid soon, at least a clean environment will help us to play on the streets.
