Absconding Madhan held after 6-month chase

Addressing media persons, George said that Madhan, was with a woman at a private home in Tirupur when he was apprehended. On May 29, Madhan had left his home in Chennai leaving behind a letter stating that he was going to Varanasi (Kasi) to attain samadhi . A week later, police received 120 complaints from aspiring medical students stating that they had given him huge sums (totally Rs 84.5 crore) to secure admission in private colleges. A special team, which was formed to probe the case launched a massive manhunt to trace Madhan. “Madhan had studied in Marathwada Institute of Technology and so we suspected that he was outside the State, and soon enough, we traced him to a lodge in Haridwar. But, Madhan had vacated the lodge before cops reached there,” George said. The breakthrough came after police got a tip off about a woman in the city was being in regular contact with him. During inquiries, the woman revealed that Madhan had even purchased a house in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, in another man’s name. Then, the team identified the proxy. Sensing that the cops were closing in on him, Madhan sent the accomplice and his female partner to Imphal, Manipur. However, he continued sending money to the duo and all these transactions were constantly tracked by the team. The police team stayed in Imphal for a month to nab the duo but were unsuccessful.  Meanwhile, the police got a lead that Madhan was with a woman in Tirupur. The team located the house and went there on Sunday. “During questioning the woman initially denied that she was in contact with Madhan, but on conducting a search in the house, the film director was found inside a secret cabin in one of the closets,” he said.
