“The head and torso were lying on the roadside. There were grievous injuries to the body parts,” a police official said. They suspect that vehicles could have run over the body parts resulting in the mutilation. Later on Wednesday, investigators matched the body parts with those abandoned in Korattur.

On December 13 morning, residents of Ilango Nagar in Padi found the lower torso wrapped in a cloth with blood stains on it inside a roadside canal and alerted the police. A police team led by Inspector Balamurali came to the spot and sent the body parts to the Government Kilpauk Medical College.

The Korattur police sent out the information all other stations. On Saturday morning, Tambaram police received information regarding the head and torso. A team went to the spot and sent the body parts to the same hospital to see if they were a match. As the doctors confirmed that the body parts were a match, police suspect the case to be murder. Initial inquiries revealed that the body was cut into two using a chain saw.

“The murder could have taken place elsewhere and the body parts could have been dumped here,” said a police source. The Tambaram police are investigating.
