ailway special branch sub inspector Lakshmi, a resident of Nungambakkam police quarters, was taking her children to Good Shepherd School on her two wheeler on around 8.30 on Thursday. “On College road, two youth on a bike, both wearing helmet, came behind me and snatched my chain. I lost balance and almost fell down along with my kids,” Lakshmi told DTNext.
As her focus was to save the kids from falling down, Lakshmi could not note the registration number of the bike. “The rear seat of the bike had a raised positioning and that was all I could notice. The duo were travelling very fast and it all happened in a split second,” Lakshmi said and added that the gold chain weighed 8.5 sovereigns.
Luckily, Lakshmi and her kids escaped unscathed as she was driving slow, police said and added that both the children and the woman SI could have sustained serious injuries had they fallen down.Lakshmi lodged a complaint with the Nungambakkam police station.
Police sources said the snatchers seemed to have been following her and waited for the right stretch to commit the crime. The officials are now checking CCTV footages from the locality to identify the duo. Further investigation is on.
