The four-day Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival will be held between January 5 and 8 around the Kapaleeswarar Temple and at the Nageswara Rao Park. Starting with a ‘thaala vaadya kutcheri’ by 20 disciples of the legendary ghatam artiste Vikku Vinayakram, at the park, the events that will follow will include folk dance from Karnataka and bharathanatyam performance.

The highlights of this year’s festival include Bommalattam (puppetry) based on the Mahabharatha on Friday and on Sunday, a musical drama titled ‘Ramanuja Vaibhavam’, ahead of Vaishnavite philosopher Sri Ramanuja’s 1000th birth anniversary next year. Vincent D’Souza, Director, Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival, said, “We have lined up some interesting events this year with two action packed evenings over the weekend that will see presentation of historical events through traditional art forms.

Ramanuja Vaibhavam, Kattai Koothu and Bomalattam will keep the audience fixed to their seats. The walks are designed to expose people to the less explored aspects of Mylapore such as its social architecture, its traditional food and temples.” TT Srinivasaraghavan, MD, Sundaram Finance Ltd, added that the heartening part of the festival was the participation of school and college students.
