50 sovereigns burgled from house in Pondy Bazaar
More than 50 sovereigns of gold and two kilograms of silver articles have been burgled from a house in Pondy Bazaar on January 9.

Police said that the unidentified persons have broken open the window grill, adjacent to the dining hall to gain entry into the individual house on Bazullah Road. The two bureaus where the jewels were in a separate room. However, the thieves seem to have used fake keys to open the bureau to steal the gold and silver.
The residents of the house — Kailash (56), his wife, mother and two sons — retired to bed by 11.30 pm on Sunday and the theft is suspected to have taken place in the wee hours of Monday. Police said, Kailash, a businessman, and his wife Chitra were sleeping in an air-conditioned room while the two sons and his mother were in another room. Since the bureaus were not broken, the occupants had no idea about the theft, according to police.
On Monday, the family members found that 52 sovereigns of gold jewellery and two-and-ahalf kilograms of silver articles burgled from house and complained to police. Police said the house was nearly 75-years-old. The police are conducting inquiries after checking the CCTV cameras available in the locality. They have also taken the finger-print samples from the house.
