Tipplers beware, big brother to watch you

Advocates Forum for Social Justice represented by its president K Balu submitted that there existed as many as 6,181 retail liquor shops and 3,076 bars under the control of the Director General of Police. But lot of illegality goes on within and outside the TASMAC shops and bar, causing unsafe situations for those residing in its vicinity. 

Moreover, despite a ban on selling liquor for those below 21 years of age, these shops continue to sell it to them thereby grossly affecting school going students. In a bid to prevent this, it is highly necessary that centrally monitored CCTV systems covering all these wine shops to keep a tab on what transpires in these bars is installed, he said. 

Also, raising aspects like unhygienic conditions prevailing in the bars and as many as 3,105 bars being run illegally besides the wine shops, the plea noted that all criminal activities perpetrated by rowdies transpire in such bars and hence a tab on them becomes imperative. The first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M Sundar while disposing the plea sought the government to consider it.
