While Sivaramakrishnan stayed in the first floor, his mother stayed on the ground floor. On entering the house, the duo found the bureau and the locker broken open. The valuables kept inside were missing. One of the window grills was also removed. Sivaramakrishnan subsequently lodged a complaint with the Anna Nagar police. The officials suspect that someone who knew about the duo’s travel plans could be behind the heist. A police team lifter finger prints from the crime scene. Search is on nab the burglars.
Five held for attacking, robbing Slovenian woman
Mamallapuram police on Wednesday arrested five youngsters who had waylaid a foreign woman tourist and robbed her in the tourist hub a month ago.
On December 27, Ksenija Murali from Slovenia was attacked by a group of men when she was walking alone at the beach in Mamallapuram. The robbers snatched her bag, that contained 1,400 Euros, 250 US dollars and Rs 1,000, besides her mobile phone and two credit cards.
The police arrested Philip Kumar (22), Ajith Kumar (20), Deepak Kumar (18), Mani alias Sivakumar (21) and Vijayakumar (21), all hailing from Poonjeri near Mamallapuram. Police said most of the accused were school dropouts and had been involved in several such crimes in the past. Police have recovered 1,050 Euros, 250 US Dollars, passport, mobile phone and credit cards of the tourist. Police said the youth had exchanged about 100 Euros and spent it.
The youngsters were wary of exchanging the foreign currency for the fear of getting caught, police added. Ksenija Murali, in her complaint, had alleged that the youths cornered her when she was walking alone on the beach in the morning. The youth had pushed her down and escaped with her bag. She suffered injuries in the attack and had to be admitted at a private hospital. Ksenija, who had come to India in November on a tourist visa, was staying at a star hotel in Mamallapuram, police said.
