Nine held for robbing businessmen of old notes
Tiruvanmiyur police on Monday arrested nine persons, including a B-Tech graduate, who had threatened a real estate businessman at knife point and escaped with demonetised currency notes to the tune of Rs 70 lakh and four sovereigns of jewellery.

The arrested were identified as Muhammed Nizamuddhin (29) of Thondiarpet, a B-Tech graduate, D Santhosh (30) of Thondiarpet, Babu alias Dilli Babu (24) of Oothukottai, Appu alias Uma Mahesh (25) of T Nagar, V Murugeshan (26) of Vyasarpadi, S Satheesh Kumar (36) of Royapuram, Jai alias Jayakumar (27) of Vyasarpadi, J B Vinod (32) of Royapuram and D Sakthivelu (23) of Royapuram.
Police said Harikrishnan, a realtor, with the help of his friend Gokul Ram approached Mohammed, who offered to exchange the notes for 40 per cent commission. Later Mohammed asked Harikrishnan to come to the Tiruvanmiyur beach with the cash. There, the gang, which came in a Mahindra XUV, assaulted both Harikrishnan and Gokul Ram and threatened them at knife point, before escaping with the old notes and gold. Police have recovered the booty and the car from the accused.
