High Court gets 16 new senior advocates
The High Court has designated sixteen lawyers as senior advocates, which includes three woman lawyers and three Additional Advocate Generals of the state.

As per a notification issued by the High Court, the 16 lawyers are G Thilakavathi, AK Kumarasamy, Haja Nazirudeen, T Murugamanickam, JD Ravi Kumar Paul, S Ravindran, C Manishankar, STS Murthi, V Ayyadurai, Ramakrishnan Viraraghavan, R Sankaranarayanan, E Omprakash, PR Raman, S Subbiah, S Meenakshi Sundaram and N Krishnaveni.
Thirteen out of the 16 lawyers are from Madras while three of them, S Subbiah, S Meenakshi Sundaram and N Krishnaveni practice at the Madurai Bench of the High Court. STS Murthi, V Ayyadurai and C Manishankar are the three Additional Advocate Generals in the list.
‘Senior advocate’ is a designation that is conferred on lawyers practicing in the Supreme Court or high courts, in recognition of their ability and standing at the bar. The Advocates Act, 1961, empowers the Supreme Court and high courts to designate lawyers senior advocates and different courts have evolved criteria to offer senior advocate status.
