Kancheepuram cops watch as ‘guards take control’ of Koovathur road
With the standoff between the local public and the ‘guards’ posted to protect the ruling party MLAs at Golden Bay Resort escalating, Kancheepuram police have been drawing flak from both the public and also from the media for not taking any action to prevent the rude behaviour of the ‘guards’.

Locals have been protesting against the restrictions imposed on them by the guards, who have reportedly completely taken over a public road near the resort and deny access to the public.
The Kancheepuram police, led by Superintendent of Police Mutharasi, have so far not tried to control this unruly crowd, who first pelted stones at the media and on Sunday grabbed the cameras and cell phones of press-persons when they tried to record a protest by residents in the area.
Now a phone conversation allegedly between SP Mutharasi and a journalist has gone viral on social media, where the SP was reportedly ‘advising’ the scribe try not to enter the resort without permission. “Even as such unruly incidents happened in the presence of the police, they did not bother to interfere and prevent the guards. They actually are supporting the guards and stand as mute spectators to the rowdyism,” Parthipan, a local resident said.
Sources said the Kancheepuram police were vary of acting tough on the unruly elements, fearing that Sasikala might target them for their action against her supporters. “Nobody wants to be in her bad books. So the officials and constabulary are keeping a safe distance without taking any action against the anti-socials,” another police official said.
Sasikala group shifted the AIADMK MLAs to the beach resort after Paneerselvam revolted against her and claimed support of majority of MLAs. The MLAs were shifted to the resort on February 8.
