Couple robs woman of gold chain, held
The Valasarawalkam police on Tuesday arrested a couple on charges of robbery and recovered a gold chain weighing five sovereigns from them.

Police said the couple, S Suriyakumar, (23) and his wife Kamakshi (19), of Ponnathur Taluk, Tiruvannamalai, had entered the house of Chandrakala (38), of Tirupati Nagar, Valasarawalkam on February 17, under the guise of water can suppliers.
The couple requested Chandrakala buy water can supplied by them. Chandrakala replied that she was buying water cans from another supplier and added that she would contact them if needed. While Chandrakala was talking to them, the couple wrapped a shawl around her face and snatched her gold chain before fleeing.
Chandrakala lodged a complaint with the Valasarawalkam police, who arrested the couple after identifying them with he help of CCTV footages from the neighbouring areas.
Suriyakumar had been working as a water can supplier in Valasarawalkam area and used to supply water cans to Chandrakala as well. However, he quit that job for another. As he was not getting enough money from the new job, he targeted Chandrakala, knowing well that she would be alone at home during day time.
