Police said the victim Janardhanan was a degree holder but has been working as a daily wage labourer. Janardhanan had joined a chit fund run by Sreenivasan, the autorickshaw driver.
When the chit fund attained maturity, Janardhanan demanded the money from Sreenivasan. However, Sreenivasan refused to pay and both have been fighting over the issue ever since.
On Sunday night, Rathinasamy, a relative of Janardhanan had called Sreenivasan for a compromise. During negotiations, the duo began arguing. The verbal duel soon turned physical. In a fit of rage, Sreenivasan pulled out a knife and stabbed Janardhanan.
He fell down unconscious and was rushed to the Stanley Medical College, but died without responding to treatment. Following inquiries, the R K Nagar police arrested Sreenivasan and remanded to judicial custody.
