Police said Mani (60), a resident of Anna Main Road, Choolaimedu, had returned home along with his daughter Sumathi, after withdrawing Rs 1 lakh from a bank at Kodambakkam.

Sumathi went inside the house while Mani was parking his two-wheeler outside the gate. At that time, a youth told Mani that some currency notes had fallen off from his pocket.

Mani turned around and saw a few Rs 10 notes on the ground. So, he kept the bag with the cash on the seat of his bike and bent over to pick up the notes. Suddenly, the youth took his bag and escaped.

Mani later lodged a complaint with the Choolaimedu police. In his complaint, Mani told the police that he had Rs 1 lakh in cash and a cheque for another lakh in the bag. Mani then alerted the bank officials, who blocked the cheque.

The Choolaimedu police officials have collected CCTV footages from the area and are searching for the accused. Further probe is on.
