Police said, Jayasree, an ex-army official’s widow, had gone to the Indian Bank branch on Big Street in Triplicane on Friday to withdraw her pension. When Jayasree withdrew Rs 70,000 and was counting the notes, a youth approached her and offered help.

Not suspecting his intentions, she gave him the money. The youth counted the notes and returned them to Jayasree and left the bank. Suspecting something fishy, Jayasree counted the notes once again and found she only had Rs 40,000. She immediately lodged a complaint with the Ice House police station.

Police are awaiting the CCTV footage from the bank. However, Jayasree failed to give a detailed description of the youth to the police. Earlier, on Wednesday, a man was tricked inside an SBI ATM in the same area when he had gone to check his account balance.
