1 kg heroin seized; Sri Lankan national held
In a major operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau seized 1 kg heroin worth over Rs 1 crore in international market from a Colombo-bound passenger at Chennai airport.

The NCB officials, intercepted a passenger, identified as Muneer Shah (32) of Sri Lanka, when he was about to board a flight to Colombo around 1 am. When the officials checked his baggage and found a milk powder tin in possession. On suspicion when they examined the content it was found to be heroin. Subsequently, the contraband was seized and the suspect was arrested. NCB sources said that Muneer Shah seems to be a regular courier for an international heroin gang that has a strong base in Colombo. He had come to India on a tourist visa, the officials added.
History-sheeter hacked to death
A history-sheeter was hacked to death in Tirumullaivoyal, near Avadi late on Thursday night when he was consuming alcohol with his friends. Police said that S Balaji (30) of Ponniyamman Koil Street, Periyar Nagar in Tirumullaivoyal was facing many cases, including murder cases, in several police stations in and around Ambattur. On Thursday night, Balaji was consuming alcohol with his friends when a five-member gang chased and attacked him near a marriage hall. He succumbed to injuries on the spot. On information, police reached the spot, recovered his body and sent it for post mortem. Police suspect that a rival gang should have killed him. Special teams have been formed to nab the killers of Balaji.
