Police have booked more than 22,000 cases in the last three days and collected Rs 25 lakh as fine for various road rule violations. Special instructions have been given to tow away vehicles parked along the roadside obstructing free flow of traffic and in ‘no parking’ zones. The inspectors have been told to book all violations and focus more on implementing the rules as part of the drive.
“The CoP has ordered a crackdown on vehicles parked on the roadside and ensure smooth flow of traffic. He has told us to act strictly upon unauthorised parking in the city,” a senior traffic officer said. “Many vehicle owners park their cars on the margins of the road and leave it there for the whole of the day. Such vehicles hinder movement of traffic by occupying sizeable space available on already narrow roads,” a senior officer said.
“Now, parking will be allowed only in those areas earmarked for the purpose and permitted by the traffic police. Proper signs and boundary lines will be marked on the roads for parking and any vehicle found outside such authorised spaces will be penalised,” he stressed.
